My Blog 5.12. Charity / giving.

If you are from a charity other, than the Salvation Army, don’t waste your time coming to me for money.

First: I believe charity starts at home. When I see people hungry without homes and jobs or pensions in Canada. Then I see how fashionable it is to give cash to exotic countries that are in some kind of need, while there is so much need at home that should be addressed, I'm sorry but it makes me sick.
When there is a disaster in another country try testing there sincerity first, call an aid-organization and offer your services, it will play out a little like this...
Hi I would like to help, I have all my shots, I have a valid passport and I can leave on the next plane,
I am strong and healthy and not afraid of work or long hours.I am willing to sign a waiver so that you are free from all liability. All I ask is a place to stay; even a tent is fine, and three meals a day.
To make a long story short, short of spitting in your face, they will most likely say that unless you are a
rock star,
a millionaire,
a politician,
have a degree,
are a doctor or
are connected to someone famous, they would rather have your cash......not you.
At that point hang up the phone and walk away, give your cash to the next homeless, hungry, jobless, without a pension, Canadian you meet, or is that not exotic enough for you?
