On thinking of national security, it occurred to me, that if it was in my power, I would use all social web sites to my advantage. I would especially encourage and focus on dating sites. Once I had convinced the people there identity would be kept private (from every one but me), i would use the questions in the profiles to build personality profiles on the populace, and specific people, the fact that lying in dating is a standard practice, it would be taken into account and the questions adapted too funnel out a more truthful profile, without the subject knowing. With this I would not only be able to get a very reasonably accurate profile of a particular person, but I could also access the persons propensity to lying and deceit, a possible threat, that may be found in people that may be considered as threats. Google would become a goverment informant, answering to the goverment and policing for the goverment, spying on the population for the goverment and policing, going to court aganst the people as a witness for the goverment.
Once the confidence of the people had been won, over time, and after confirmation that the person actually answering the questions was the one who they say they were (through other means), rewards would be offered to encourage not only continued participation but by having the subjects rate each others truthfulness in regards to the profile accuracy a form of self policing would come to be.
In time I would set up coffee shops that offer the illusion of privacy through the use of booths and free internet access, free debit card use for money withdrawals, for example, when buying coffee a person could take out a little extra cash with out debit charges or the people may be allowed to run tabs and have computer time and use free. Students would be encouraged to use the coffee shop to study and talk, for as long as they like. Listing devices and cameras could be implanted.
An important note would be that at no time would any information or communication even if it involved criminal activity be used in the arrest of criminals other than those that involve a threat to national security, the trust of the people must be maintained at all costs, even if that means allowing the day to day criminal to think they are untraceable, or that security is flawed. The main objective of these suggestions is for profiling and the collection of information that may offer insights into any threat to national security, and to warn of possible group connections that may be considered dangerous. 99.9% of criminals would be for the most part ignored, but not forgotten.
At all airports i would install in all bank machines and on any touch screen (such as boarding pass machines) simple devices, to harvest finger prints and photos, that would be matched to the name of the person on the boarding pass and run through a data base to look for known criminals. By making every person wait at least a week for tickets each person on the plane could be run through a police or other data base (stall tactic). stewardess would report on any person not eating or drinking during the trip, so as to alert the police to possible drug mules, smuggling drugs in there stomachs.
